Earlier this year, when Kapil Sharma came to Netflix with The Great Indian Kapil Show, the world rejoiced. However, what got fans even more excited was his calling a truce with Sunil Grover, who joined the team after a gap of over six years. In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, Sunil spoke about what led to their reunion.
“We had been meeting, aisa nahi tha ke mil nahi rahe the (It is not like we were not meeting). Be it for some occasions or parties, we met several times. It was just not decided when we would be working together. Thanks to Netflix for bringing us together and giving us this opportunity. I hope this becomes a continuous ritual,” Sunil Grover said.
The comedian added, “Mazaa aa raha hai ikkhatte kaam karke (We are having a lot of fun working together). We are laughing a lot and making others laugh too. Our priority is to make our fans happy and keep entertaining them.”
For the unversed, in 2017, Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover had a fallout, allegedly on a flight on their way back to India from a tour in Australia. While the two haven’t extensively spoken about it, they keep pulling each other’s leg over it.
Sunil Grover also spoke about the process of shooting and how the team keeps improvising. He shared that while the dialogues are really funny, sometimes the guest’s response leads to them cracking funnier jokes.
“The show is not like a fiction project where you can take any number of takes. It’s more like a play where everything is organic. Everyone is involved with each other’s performance and enjoys the same too,” he said, adding that there are times when he or another actor cannot stop laughing during a shoot.
“It happens so many times, but we keep going on with the take. It actually becomes funnier as everyone starts pulling each other’s leg after that,” Sunil said.
Archana Puran Singh, who was also part of the interview, mentioned, “Every time Krushna (Krushna Abhishek) starts laughing between jokes, Parmeet (husband Parmeet Sethi) goes hysterical. We actually pause the television to watch him laugh.”
Also featuring Kiku Sharda and Rajiv Thakur, The Great Indian Kapil Show will premiere on Netflix on September 21.
